Rev. Akil Dickens
Rev. Akil Dickens is currently serving as the Executive Pastor of DuPage AME Church, having previously served as the Senior Pastor of Emmanuel AME Church in Durham, North Carolina.
He formerly served as the Youth Pastor at Ebenezer AME Church (Fort Washington, MD) under Pastors Grainger & Jo Ann Browning. At Ebenezer, he oversaw the church’s 2,000 youth, taught weekly Youth Bible Study, provided spiritual guidance and care needs to the youth in crisis, offering outreach and support services to area schools, and implementing innovative services and programs to uplift youth spiritually, mentally, socially, and physically. He has organized and led youth conferences, college tours, and cultural excursions for youth across the region and has been called upon to speak at youth conferences, religious gatherings, church services, universities, and schools internationally.
Pastor Akil earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Masters of Divinity from Howard University School of Divinity. He is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Some of his leadership positions have included Religious Leader for Student Affairs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Maryland State Page for the Maryland General Assembly, County Executive’s Youth Advisory Council for Prince George’s County, Youth Advisor to the State’s Attorney of Prince George’s County, Maryland, Chaplain for Explorer Post of Southern Maryland, and Co-Chair for the Kiamasha Youth Empowerment Youth Organization to name a few.
He is the husband to Rev. Conitras Houston Dickens who serves as the Senior Pastor of DuPage AME Church in Lisle, IL, son of Kenneth & Carolyn Dickens and the brother of Brian and Kamilah Dickens.
